Draftsman
Job Description
Thomas Industrial Fabrication is seeking a detail-oriented Draftsman to support the design and production of custom industrial equipment, structural components, and fabricated systems. This role works closely with engineering, project management, and shop personnel to translate concepts into accurate, build-ready drawings.
This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in precision, organization, and producing work that directly impacts fabrication and installation.
Key Responsibilities
Create detailed 2D and 3D models using Autodesk Inventor
Produce fabrication drawings, shop prints, and assembly drawings
Interpret project requirements, sketches, and existing equipment for reverse engineering
Maintain drawing standards, revision control, and file organization
Collaborate with shop personnel to ensure drawings are practical and buildable
Assist in developing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and supporting documentation
Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability
Support ongoing projects with updates, revisions, and documentation
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (3D modeling required)
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting work
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with a team
Preferred Experience
Experience with metal fabrication, structural steel, or industrial systems
Familiarity with AutoCAD
Experience creating shop drawings for fabrication environments
Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
Work Environment
Based in Floyd, Virginia
Primarily office-based with regular interaction with shop operations
